March 25, 2015 - Motorcycle and Marine Racers Inspire Universal Technical Institute Students

To celebrate Universal Technical Institute’s new partnership with AMSOIL – the leader in high-performance synthetic motor oils and lubricants – three AMSOIL Arenacross riders and a hall-of-fame powerboat racer visited the company’s Orlando campus.

Team Babbitt’s motorcycle riders Jacob Hayes, Chris Blose and Matt Goerke, along with their technician, Josh Denson, a graduate of UTI’s Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, talked about finding success on the pro circuit. AMSOIL powerboat driver Terry Rinker, who has won 10 national championships and set five speed records, discussed the marine race industry with students in UTI’s Marine Mechanics Institute.

As part of the event, students Daniel Quinones (Marine) and Douglas Jolly (Motorcycle) also received $5,000 scholarships, courtesy of AMSOIL. Applicants needed to demonstrate a financial need, have a 2.7 or higher GPA and attendance record of 93 percent or higher.

“We’re excited that our partnership with AMSOIL is supporting students through product donations, scholarships and relocation grants,” said Steve McElfresh, UTI-Orlando president. “UTI boasts alliances with the top manufacturers in each industry, and events like this give our students a sense of the great jobs and rewarding, life-long careers available in our industry for technicians who have hands-on, high-tech, training.”

As the official oil provider for UTI’s Marine and Motorcycle divisions, AMSOIL is sponsoring two classrooms on the Phoenix campus and two in Orlando and helping to shape the curriculum to give students training on the latest oil and lubricant technology.

AMSOIL corporate staff will also lead Marine and Motorcycle instructor training programs and participate in UTI’s annual Partner Advisory Council, which will provide the opportunity to give feedback on curriculum, training aides and the overall learning environment.
