June 12, 2014 - Universal Technical Institute Hosts Job Fair for Automotive and Diesel Industry Employers at its Norwood Campus

On Thursday, April 24, Universal Technical Institute (www.uti.edu) hosted employers on at its Norwood campus for a major recruiting event to give current UTI students and graduates the opportunity to meet with hiring managers from more than 30 employers, including companies with job opportunities in Massachusetts, New England and the U.S. Armed Forces and Army/National Guard.

Representatives from companies including Charles River Automotive Group, Tri-State Truck Center, Sun-Belt Rentals, Waste Management, Pepsi Co., Penske, Ryder, and Federal Express met with current UTI students and recent graduates about entry-level job opportunities, and the career paths offered for automotive and diesel service technicians within their organizations.

“UTI has developed long-term relationships with many companies in our region who value the skills and professionalism of our students,” said Paul Tavares, Campus Director of Employment. “We feel it is a critical part of the education offered at UTI to provide all of our students with access to job opportunities, and this event allows students to connect directly with employers who are actively hiring.” According to Tavares, Penske made five job offers to students that day.

Many automotive and diesel employers have a need for skilled technicians. These employers look for candidates with the advanced education and the training needed to diagnose and solve increasingly complex issues and the ability to work with new and changing engine technologies.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (www.bls.gov), job opportunities for both automotive and diesel service technicians are expected to be very good for those with formal training in advanced diagnostics and repair. Recent data shows employment of automotive service technicians is expected to grow by 17% from 2010 to 2020, with similar job growth rate data for diesel service technicians over this same period.
