August 4, 2014 - Three Universal Technical Institute-Sacramento Instructors Recognized as World Class Technicians

Three instructors from the Universal Technical Institute (UTI) campus in Sacramento were awarded the prestigious 2014 World Class Technician Award.

UTI Instructors Mark W. Couvrette and Michael Whalen, and UTI Training Manager Jared M. Avent were among 22 recipients to earn the World Class Technician award by the Auto Care Association and the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE).

With more than 812,000 automotive technicians in the United States, the award is given to professional technicians who have tested and obtained ASE certification in 22 specialty area during a 2013 test administered by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.   

“Recipients of the World Class Technician Award are truly the best of the best and the Auto Care Association is proud to recognize these professionals with ASE,” Auto Care Association President and CEO Kathleen Schmatz said in a recent press release. “Passing 22 ASE tests is a monumental achievement requiring exceptional knowledge and skills.”

Whalen, a resident of Dixon, Calif., has been in the auto industry for 41 years and has been a UTI Instructor for the past three years.  

Couvrette, a resident of Sacramento, Calif., has been in the auto industry for 30 years and has been working at UTI Sacramento for the past six years.

Avent, a resident of Lincoln, Calif., has been in the auto industry for the past 15 years and has spent the last nine years working at the UTI Sacramento campus. 

Recipients will receive a special certificate signed by the presidents of ASE and the Auto Care Association, a logo medallion and embroidered shoulder insignia. Also, the recipients’ names will be inscribed in an honor book located in the Automotive Hall of Fame in Dearborn, Mich.

“Our instructors are passionate about training the next generation of automotive technicians,” said Roger Speer, Campus President of UTI’s Sacramento campus. “We are truly honored to have these three great individuals form part of the UTI Sacramento team.”
