October 23, 2014 - UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth Helps Launch Irving YMCA Achievers Program

The Universal Technical Institute’s Dallas/Ft. Worth campus is partnering with the Irving YMCA and Irving Independent School District to help launch the first Irving YMCA Achievers Program.  The program launched in September and focuses on Irving ISD students that attend the Secondary Reassignment Center (SRC).

Students are assigned to the SRC for 4 weeks.  During that time, they can earn points to be invited to join the Irving YMCA Achievers Program.  The program culminates with a field trip that exposes the students to various careers.  The UTI Dallas/Fort Worth campus, based in Irving, will be included on the tour each month.

During the tour, the students will learn about the training it takes to become an auto or diesel technician and how they can begin preparing.  Each month, after visiting UTI, the students will also visit Toyota of Irving to see auto technicians on the job in the service department at the dealership.

“This is an important partnership with the Irving YMCA and Irving ISD,” said Jesus Miranda, campus president of UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth. “These students need to begin planning for their future and the Irving YMCA Achievers Program exposes them to career options, gives them hope and allows them to set goals.”

After the field trip, the students continue in the program for another month for group sessions and guest speakers.  Between 10 and 20 students will visit the UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth campus each month as part of the program.
