November 21, 2014 - Universal Technical Institute Graduate and United States Marine Corps Veteran Christian Raymundo Finds Career Success as Diesel Technician

Christian Raymundo, a native of Dorchester, Massachusetts and 2012 graduate of the Norwood campus of Universal Technical Institute (www.uti.edu), the leading provider of post-secondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, credits his career success as a diesel technician at Penske to his automotive and diesel education. Military veterans sometimes find the transition to a civilian career a difficult one, but Raymundo found an interesting career filled with opportunity for growth through UTI-Norwood.

“I joined the United States Marine Corps right out of high school and served two tours in Iraq. But after I was discharged, it was much harder than I anticipated to find work that could become a career with room for growth,” says Raymundo. “I realized that I needed additional training and education, and UTI provided the perfect opportunity to build on skills I had already started developing.”

In January 2010, Raymundo enrolled in the automotive and diesel programs at UTI-Norwood. In April 2010, he accepted a part-time position at Penske while pursuing his education full-time, and Penske quickly promoted him to a full-time position. Raymundo continued working full-time while attending UTI-Norwood full-time until his graduation in July 2012. Raymundo has worked at Penske since graduation as a diesel technician, having already received a promotion. He is excited about the opportunities for growth at Penske, and is currently pursuing a four-year degree at Quincy College with an eye towards moving into a management position.

“We are very proud that many military veterans have chosen UTI to further their education and training in careers that continue to be in high demand,” says Chuck Barresi, Campus President of UTI-Norwood. “Demand for diesel and automotive technicians is on the rise, yet quality technicians are getting harder to find. It’s a field with a lot of opportunities.”

“Go to school, invest in yourself and you’ll live better,” says Raymundo. “You need to find your opportunities. If you don’t have a plan it’s tough to be successful. UTI has given me a fantastic starting point and a strong foundation to achieve my own success.”
