November 24, 2014 - Universal Technical Institute in Norwood Establishes Campus-Based Student Council

Students at the Norwood campus of Universal Technical Institute (www.uti.edu), the leading provider of post-secondary education for students seeking careers as professional automotive, diesel, collision repair, motorcycle and marine technicians, recently re-established a campus-based Student Council. The Student Council will work to boost student involvement in campus activities, support school pride and give a more unified voice to student questions and concerns.

“I am so excited about the progress of our Student Council in such a short period of time!” said Liz Carr, Student Affairs Advisor for UTI-Norwood and Student Council Faculty Advisor. “We are already getting a lot of enthusiasm and increased student involvement in campus activities. I am confident only positive things are to come as we gain momentum.”

The Student Council was formed in July 2014 and has already sponsored a snow cone and cotton candy booth at the Constitution Day Carnival to generate visibility among the student body. Projects and activities planned in the near future include a Halloween candy give-away, an instructor-sponsored drag race at a local dragway and organizing peer tutoring and study groups.

UTI-Norwood students were invited to submit applications to be a part of Student Council. Faculty advisors then selected Student Council members, who meet approximately twice a month to discuss activities and projects, questions and concerns. Student Council members are in their position for six months, or until the student graduates. The Student Council meetings are open to the entire student body.
