March 27, 2015 - UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth Hosts Future Diesel Technicians at ATC Freightliner

More than 125 aspiring diesel technicians and their parents took a closer look at a diesel career on Saturday, March 21st by participating in Future Tech Day at ATC Freightliner Group in Dallas.  ATC provides parts, service, new truck sales and used truck sales to individuals and trucking companies domiciled in or traveling through the Dallas area. Hosted by UTI-Dallas/Fort Worth, the event gave the future students an inside look at careers in diesel repair.

Attendees heard from UTI graduates now working in successful careers at ATC and received information from ATC Service Manager Justin Griffin.  “We value our partnership with UTI,” said Griffin. “They have the best curriculum to help prepare students for the real world.”

UTI’s Diesel & Industrial Technology program is designed to teach students how to diagnose, service and repair diesel and industrial equipment.  Graduates of this program are qualified to work as entry-level service technicians in medium-duty truck facilities, truck dealerships, and service and repair facilities for marine diesel engines and equipment utilized in various industrial applications, including materials handling, construction, transport refrigeration and farming.

Today’s transportation service technicians are experts in the complex and innovative digital systems that keep modern vehicles running, and technicians with high-tech, hands-on training are in demand. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry will have an average of more than 37,000 job openings for skilled technicians every year. These jobs pay well, cannot be outsourced or off-shored and offer plenty of opportunities to move up.

Students were also able to tour the new, state-of-the-art ATC facility, which has over 200,000 square feet of climate controlled office space, service shops, customer amenities, and parts inventory storage. At the conclusion of the event, more than 50 attendees tested for scholarships to UTI.
